2 Quick Stories

First I'll tell you the sad story so that we can get it over with--

Last Sunday my ward was having ward prayer and then we had some treats after, mingled, etc. Well this kid was there that I didn't recognize, so we started chatting and he told me his name was Ezra and that this was his brother Devon's ward not his and that he just came to our activities every once and a while. ANYWAY so a big group of us were leaving back to our apartment building so we were walking and talking and he asked where I was from and I told him that I was from HomeTown... this is the preceding conversation:

"Hometown?! One of my good buddies from the mission was from there! Do you know KJo?!"

(Kaylen, pulling out the knife he'd just stabbed her with, replied..)
"Ya I do.. You went to _____, Brazil on your mission?"

"Yep! Elder KJo is the best!"

"So you know Elder Harris too? "(Kla's hubby went to the same mission)

"Ya I know Elder Harris!"

(Kaylen replies in tone much less enthusiastic than his)

"Umm ya so you want to hear a sad story?"

"...sure."

"I was engaged to KJo about 2 months ago..."

(Ezra replies semi disgustedly) "That was YOU?"

(Kaylen head down) "Ya."

WELL long story short he got kind of really protective of KJo and kept telling me how great of a guy he was/is (like I don't know that already) and I was like dude it wasn't right! What more do you want from me? I asked him what his last name was and when he told me it I KNEW I'd heard about this kid from KJo before... Anyway I told him not to hate me and that I really had TONS of respect for KJo and didn't have a bad word to say about him, but it was still a little weird for a minute there. I gave him a hug when he left and he seemed cool with it all. I texted Bo about it and he said that KJo had helped him out a lot on the mish with the language or something, so that explains the protective nature I guess, but OF ALL THE PEOLE TO KNOW FROM HOMETOWN! honestly! and it HAD to be this week that it came up... Sad day. I wanted to crawl in a hole.

2nd Story- (which is a much happier I promise :)
Remember when I told you I'd had my palm read in the last post? ha well it was a pretty funny experience-

We were at the dance party/bon fire and this guy had a crowd around him, so we went over to see what was going on--
(the guy in the wife beater in the middle)

He was reading peoples palms lol. How random! So naturally we got in line! I've never believed much in this kind of stuff and still don't really know where I stand with all of it, but one thing that I do know is that this guy was pretty legit lol

He grabbed my hand, looked at it for like 2 seconds and then looked up and said "Food. Really?" ha ha Lakyn got a huge kick out of it because I have been eating so much lately! I get 3rds for like every meal and I've been stressing about it lol so it was WAY funny that he brought it up. Then he told me:
  • You like the idea of food in culture and enjoy the thought of travel (TOTALLY TRUE).
  • You're a spontaneous kind of person. Your idea of perfect date wouldn't so much be a planned event, but more of a "I don't care what we do-- let's just do something random/spontaneous that we've never done before!". (TRUE)
  • You usually first to volunteer for things (TRUE)
  • You bit your nails as a product of being too critical of yourself (PROBABLY TRUE)
  • Will analyze things to the death (TRUE)
  • My creative side comes from my dad (NOT REALLY TRUE because I'm not that creative and neither is my dad.. that's my mom's trait if anything)
  • I'm a hopeless romantic (TRUE)
I think he told me more but that's all I really remember.. It was really interesting to hear some of the things he told me about myself! Ha I just figure it's one of those things that's just kind of interesting, but I would never base my life around them. Lakyn actually attempts to defy her palm reading ha ha ha He told her (among many other funny things) that she was stubborn (TRUE ;), so she's been trying EXTRA hard lately NOT to be stubborn lol

Well those are my stories that I thought I'd share. These next weeks are going to be BRUTAL so I dunno when I'll chat next, but have a great week!

Blogging was on my "to-do list" today

Well like always I get behind so here goes the sweet and condensed version :)

I LOVE MY ROOMMATES
-they are beautiful people

Kelsey is a true born Texan and it comes out every now and again ha ha Remember Stevo?? ya Kelsey is dating him ... oh how the world turns... but he is such a fun guy and I'm just glad she's attached at the hip to someone I can stand! But Kelsey is amazing and we have one of those relationships where I feel like I've known her for forever.

Lakyn is one of my BFF's through and through. She has and will continue to be such a blessing in my life! I just can't believe we actually get to live together! ha it's a blast! I'm so glad that she is here with me right now... :) I love my Lakyn. She ALWAYS helps me when I do stupid stuff like forget to grab cream cheese at Walmart or helps me start dinner when I get home from work late, plus a million other things. She is the best.

So I moved to Provo.. our apartment was disgusting. Kelsey and I spent some serious bonding time scrubbing the black toilets... enough said.

Kelsey (since she's from TEXAS) had never seen the Manti temple.. so we took a HUGE detour one Sunday so that I could help fulfill one of her dreams to see that temple

For Labor Day Lakyn came with my family and me to Arches!

Remember how I stalk apostles??

I did it again
Yes ladies and gentlemen.. that is Elder Scott on the left. yes that picture was nonchalantly taken by me on my phone...

STORY: Samson is a pretty big deal at UVU and the school was celebrating becoming an all Steinway school. aka they had permission to use their $60 to $100 thousand dollar pianos (crazy!) so they had a big celebration because its a big deal! The 5 Browns were there, which is pretty AWESOME. Plus Elder Holland and Elder Scott were there too. ANYWAY back to the story- So because Samson is legit we were VIP, which meant we got to go to the after party. We sat down to eat and we sat at the table with the Losee's (HUGE JEWELERS IN UTAH) and Mama Losee had on a diamond the size of a dime! it was unreal! So who else comes to talk to them? Elder Scott! After they have their little discussion (picture above) Elder Scott turns to leave and (of course) there I am beaming at him ha ha so we reach out our hands to shake:

"Elder Scott, How are you today?"
(shaking hands, then stops, holds my hand in both of his and looks me in the eyes)
"Better now that I've seen your beautiful smiling face!"
(exit special witness of Christ)

Holy CRAP-OLY! did that really just happen?? oh ya it did!
Needless to say I was pretty much on cloud nine--

Then that weekend was Regional Stake Conference and I was able to see Elder Holland, Sister Beck, and Elder Packer speak at the Marriott Center. Then that night at the CES (church education system) fireside I saw Elder Scott speak.

1 Weekend + 3 apostles and 1 prophetess
= the best
(ps is Sister Beck a prophetess? Do we have those anymore? Was Deborah the only one? if there ever was one in our day tho it's Sister Beck! She is one of my heros. besides my own mom of course :)

I have had some serious homework to do since starting school :S its been a little rough, but Tuesday night I went with my family to The Lion King at the Capitol Theater in SLC.. WOW what an amazing production!!
You cant really see the girls sitting next to my dad, but they were prostitutes.. no really. Their dresses looked like they were spray painted on, and they were obnoxious like I picture prostitutes would be. Ha Ha

Sad story: I bought a ticket for KJo 4 months ago... :( the ticket was $95 bucks so I told friends about it and luckily Sam bought it!
We were trying to jump like the gazelles on the window-- if you couldn't tell.
Samson and I have had some GREAT heart to hearts lately. We can just communicate/vent really well to each other. Samson is ALSO a great BFF through and through.

Sad Story again: Wednesday Kelsey found out her dad was killed in a kayaking accident. Not joking. I felt awful for her and just cried at the thought of losing my own dad... perspective changes things. She has been in Texas all week, and if I wasn't already writing a novel today I would tell you some of the tender mercies from the Lord that we've seen. MIRACLES! God prepares us for hard things...

Lakyn and I miss her :(

On a happier note, I started playing Intramural SOCCER! OMGosh I about killed over after running the field, but I am stoked! I'm playing with Tess (old soccer buddy from high school).. its gonna be fun!

I got a million peaches- I got a million peaches- I got a million peaches.. today hey hey!

Many people have taken pitty on me and given me peaches :D but I had a bajillion too many so Lakyn and I made pie!

we are SO domestic ;)

Quick timeline:
Tuesday: start of sore throat
Wednesday: really scratchy throat
Thursday: played soccer (aka yelled a lot)
Friday: the bank was NUTS-- so I talked all day long
Saturday night: dance party at Utah Lake
(aka more yelling and lots of dust)
Sunday= NO VOICE
conclusion: after the runny nose, cough, and other symptoms definite possibility of laryngitis..
-
-
no biggy
so today I didn't go to class or work in order to hopefully heal my voice and it worked!

but back to Saturday night-- we went with a huge random group of people to a dance party and there was a VERY broad range of people there. It turned out to be pretty fun.
Some dude took this picture there and then today a random friend had tagged me in it ha weird--

(don't let me forget to tell you about the palm reader from the dance party or my other sad story from this weekend)

and last but not least mine and Lakyn's new BFF
Meet Jeff! He's pretty much the coolest guy in our ward and he comes over to our house like everyday.
He keeps us VERY entertained! The three of us went and played catch today. I think I'm going to be sore..

Well I should've and could've posted like a million times in the last couple weeks as you can see, but I honestly didn't have time. BYU is not like CollegeTown.. it's actually hard here lol! So I really DON'T have time to sit and vent, but I will make time :)
peace from Provo-

Country Swing 101

Tonight marked my first country swing night.. it's kind of a big deal seeing as a couple of my besties LOVE to go swing. So Lakyn was adamant that we go tonight and tho initially I wasn't super excited about it, I ended up having a lot of fun, but here are a couple stories/lessons I learned:

  • Right when we walked in the door Lakyn turned to me and said Ok Kaylen, some weirdies will most definitely ask you to dance... But before she even finished her warnings a guy came up and asked me to dance. He was shorter than I am (I'm 5'3''), was maybe asian, spoke broken english, and when I asked his name he said it was Superman... then he asked what my favorite color was, so I told him red and then asked him and he said his favorite color was mystery color. I said Oh! mystery color-- what does it look like? and he said it's mystery blue! lol.. then right in the middle of us dancing he told my his other Alias was Josh.. that was the last thing he said to me Bizarre.
  • Don't carry on conversations that extend after the song ends unless you want to give the kid your phone number.
  • I can't waltz.
  • Though people try to have conversations, swing dancing is not the time to ask about my life story, major, # of kids in my family, etc. because I can't really hear you over the blaring music.
  • I always end up trying to lead (not on purpose) even though don't know what I'm doing.. I was told multiple times to "let me lead".. oops I think that's my red personality type coming out.
  • Only make direct eye contact with people you might want to dance with
  • Don't whap your partner in the face.. even if it is on accident
  • EVERY boy has a different style of dance. So it's hard to catch on sometimes
  • The good dancing/looking boys will ask you to dance and then once they find out that you suck/don't know what's going on- they don't usually ask you to dance again-
Well that was my night! I enjoyed about half of the guys I danced with-- the other half were a little bizarre, but that's pretty standard I thing. It was a lot of fun and might have to be a regular thing we do around here!

Saturday Night Lights

...is there anything better?

Today marked my FIRST BYU football game as a student and it was a blast! My dad and Youngest got some tickets so they came too, which was SO much fun.. I love watching football with my dad and it was also fun explaining the basics of the game to Youngest
There is nothing better than spending a Saturday night.. with my family... under the lights... with a little bit of

:)
